Step 2 Read the rule of professional conduct required by lawyers in California. If there are ethical or unprofessional reasons for your complaint, file with the California State Bar. If there are unresolved issues with payment between the client and attorney, the State Bar offers help through the Mandatory Fee Arbitration program.
Step 3 Download an official complaint form or request one by phone. The form is easy fill out and covers how long and what the lawyers was representing you for. You will also have the opportunity to explain your complaint.
Step 4 Be sure to have relevant paperwork. Locate all the paperwork and correspondence from your previous case, including the original attorney agreement. It’s also very important to save all payment receipts. Make copies of these documents for your records as well. Step 5 Understand that you may have to wait a few weeks before hearing back from the California State Bar. Your complaint will be on record and will go through a series of investigations to see if further action is appropriate. The California State Bar will contact you with the results of these finding and let you know if your complaint is cause for discipline or court.
